Duties & Responsibilities


Planning and implementing research projects involving multi-disciplinary teams.
Coordination of efficient yet economic resource utilization and management as advised by the Head of Research and Development.
Directly coordinate at least one breeding program.
Identify potential sources of funding for research and submitting proposals thereof.
Carry out critical evaluation of research programs (assigned) at all stages of their implementation.
Identify research innovations that have practical significance and devising strategies for their implementation.
Participating in the formulation of research/scientific policies and strategies.
Providing progress and/or technical reports as advised by the Head of Research and Development.
Collaborating with relevant local and international institutions conducting agricultural research.

Job Specification

MSc. in Plant Breeding, Genetics and Plant Breeding, Plant Breeding and Biotechnology or any related biophysical sciences discipline; from a recognized university.
Must have proven competence in breeding, which must include having a minimum of two developed and released Maize varieties and have verifiable technology/innovations that have been packaged and disseminated.
Proven experience in at least one grant-winning proposal.
At least 8-years of proven experience in a field crops breeding institution.
Be knowledgeable on statistical software (e.g. SAS, SPSS or GenStat) used in plant breeding programs.
Evidence of scientific publication(s)
Be a member of the Plant Breeders Association of Kenya
Good interpersonal skills, strong team spirit and self-motivation.
Demonstrate good communication and organizational skills and ability to work under pressure.
