ECHO announces a vacancy position for IT Manager in the Administration section of the Regional Support Office.

This is a Grade II Local Staff position based in Nairobi.

Overall Purpose

The European Commission’s Directorate General for Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection (ECHO), is the European Commission Department responsible for financing humanitarian assistance.

ECHO finances a range of partners, which include NGOs, UN agencies and the Red Cross Movement, to provide assistance to people affected by both natural and manmade disaster.

The position involves management of ICT services in the country/region by ensuring that operation of systems and network administration (LAN, WAN and intercom) is reliable/stable & available at all times.

The technical duties include installation, configuration, maintenance, support and optimisation of all hardware, network, software and communication links following relevant ECHO and EC regulations.

Main responsibilities:
Functioning of the hardware and software packages; such as:
Performing specific technical functions, including changing of hardware electronic components (disks, memories, network wiring, power sources, etc) and routine repairs
Assists in the deployment and installation of commercial and in-house developed software and related upgrades
Networks administration; including:
Manages the Local Area Network in line with EU/ECHO policies
Ensures the LAN is properly maintained and good practices on security policies developed by EU/ECHO are followed
Telecommunications
Pans, installs and maintains all communication systems
Acts as focal person with telecommunication service providers on technical issues

Qualifications:

Relevant first level degree,
Completion of MSCE and CCNA (or CCNP) studies;
Minimum of 5 years relevant working experience at national or international level in ICT technical areas;  Incase of failure to provide a degree, a working experience of not less than 7 (seven) years in the same area can prevail;

Required Skills:

Specialist in Network management, Security management or System management;
Working knowledge in Windows server 2008 and Exchange Server 2010 administration, CISCO devices configuration and PABX telephony;
Proven knowledge of VMWare technology
Proven knowledge of VSAT technology and configuration of various satellite equipments
Proven knowledge in active directory user and group policy management;
Fluency in English, French is an advantage.
Previous experience with a multilateral or international organization is helpful but not mandatory

Other skills:

Analytical skills, risk assessment, adaptability and flexibility/cross functional skills, high sense of initiative and good communication skills.

Act! announces a Request for Applications (RFA) for support in the Environment and Climate Change Sector.

This call seeks to support about 20 grants (for a maximum of one year period) that increase resilience of communities on impacts of climate change in the Arid and Semi Arid Lands(ASALs) by helping them adopt innovative and tested livelihood practices and techniques.

It is also intended to improve competencies of communities to adapt to climate change by strengthening organizational capacities of Non State Actors/Non State Actors networks and knowledge and information sharing for sustainable natural resources management.

The call also seeks to support implementation of innovative and strategic advocacy interventions needed to operationalize the devolved framework for the governance and management of environment and climate change.

Documenting and disseminating lessons to lending officers on common challenges, trends, gaps and high risk arrears;
Supporting collection drives instituted at branches that have arrears challenges;

Required academic qualifications:

Degree in any business related field
B [plain] in KCSE

Proactive and of good analytical skills and ability to make decisions
Team player with excellent interpersonal and member service skills

The Life & Peace Institute (LPI) is an international and ecumenical centre that supports and promotes non-violent approaches to conflict transformation through a combination of research and action that entails the strengthening of existing local capacities and enhancing preconditions for building peace.

LPI is seeking qualified applicants to fill the position of Programme Advisor within the Somalia Programme Unit.

Responsibilities:

Supports LPI’s partners in Somalia to develop plans of peace building engagement, with specific focus on capacity building, participatory research and analysis;
Provides methodological support to LPI’s partners in research design, development of data collection tools, training of field staff, and data collection;
Ensures that the partners’ projects are consistent with LPI’s programme objectives in Somalia;
Monitors and reports on partners’ progress in conflict research and analysis in close collaboration with the programme team, according to the criteria set forth in their reinforcement plans and reports regularly on such progress;
Ensures regular presence and close accompaniment of partners in the field, during relevant stages of the project implementation;
Builds good relations with LPI’s partners and other local actors and identifies relevant peace building opportunities;
Participates in the dissemination of research findings and capacity building workshops; gathers materials and documents experiences and lessons learned that could further be used to enhance LPI’s activities;
Liaises and collaborates with researchers and research institutes in Somalia, Kenya or elsewhere, which are conducting research related to conflict transformation issues applicable to LPI’s programme.

Education, Knowledge and Skills:
Professional experience of project work in peace building and/or development fields.
Professional experience in conducting social research and data analysis using participatory methodology
University degree in peace and conflict, education, monitoring & evaluation, development studies or other relevant field. Master’s preferred, Bachelor with relevant skills and experience (5+ years) may be considered.
Good analytical writer (English).
Fluency in both spoken and written Somali language is required as well as strong English writing and speaking skills.
Demonstrated interest in peace building and organisational development, experience in NGO programme work a strong asset.
Experience and interest in working on issues of gender mainstreaming in peace building is an asset.
Able and willing to travel to field locations in remote areas of South-Central Somalia.
Balanced, mature personality with developed diplomatic skills, able to cope with working in stressful and complex environments.
Eager and flexible mind, willing to acquire new skills on the job.
The candidate should not require a work permit to work in Kenya.

Kenyan Civil Aviation Authority basic “A” and “C” (turbine) License;
Having received initial type training on Embraer EMB135/145 series aircraft, incl. Rolls Royce AE3007 engines
At least 2 years of type–related practical experience, base and line maintenance, in the capacity of certifying engineer.
Have a minimum of five years’ experience in the industry.
